Review of Dell Vostro 3400 Laptop in Nepal

I recently purchased the Dell Vostro 3400 laptop in Nepal configured with 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia MX330 GPU and a 14-inch Full HD display. Having used this laptop extensively for a few weeks now, here is my in-depth review:
Specifications

Design and Build Quality
The Dell Vostro 3400 has an aluminium alloy lid and palm rest which lend a very premium feel. There is negligible flex and the laptop feels sturdy overall thanks to the metal construction. It looks elegant in a professional charcoal gray color. Weighing 1.63kg, it remains fairly portable.
The keyboard is comfortable with well-spaced keys and a responsive feel when typing. The generously sized trackpad supports multi-finger gestures smoothly. The 720p webcam captures decent-quality video for meetings.
Display and Graphics Performance
The 14-inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display is sharp, vibrant and gets sufficiently bright at 250 nits. Colors are accurate and viewing angles are wide. The slim bezels enhance immersion when gaming or watching videos.
The discrete Nvidia MX330 GPU can comfortably handle light gaming. I got 60+ fps in games like Valorant and GTA V at medium settings. Graphic intensive games may require dialing down some settings. The GPU gives a noticeable boost over integrated graphics.
Performance and Benchmarks
With its 11th gen i3 processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM and fast PCI SSD, the Vostro 3400 handles daily tasks and moderate multitasking without breaking a sweat. Applications opened swiftly and I did not face any slowdown even with 15+ Chrome tabs open.
In benchmarks, it scored 533 single-core and 3314 multi-core in Cinebench R23. The Geekbench 5 scores were 1314 and 4216 for single and multi-core, respectively. It achieved a score of 4691 in PCMark 10. This translates to smooth real-world usage.
Battery Life
The 40Wh battery lasted around 4.5 hours during my testing with light web browsing, Office apps and occasional Photoshop work. Smaller battery capacity is probably the tradeoff for the discreet GPU. Charging using the 45W power adapter takes about 2 hours.
Reasons to Buy or Not Buy?
Positives:
- Powerful 11th generation i5 performance
- Discrete Nvidia MX330 GPU for improved gaming
- sharp and vibrant 14-inch Full HD display
- Fast NVMe SSD with spacious 256GB capacity
- Good build quality with metal lid and body
- comfortable backlit keyboard
- available under Rs. 1 lakh in Nepal
Negatives:
- Battery life is mediocre at less than 5 hours
- 8GB RAM limits heavy multitasking ability
- No fingerprint sensor for quick login
- average 720p webcam quality
Summary
Dell Vostro 3400 hits a sweet spot between performance and portability for around Rs. 1 lakh budget. The addition of a discrete GPU gives it an edge for gaming over integrated graphics laptops. If your needs align, it makes for a very capable daily driver.
In my opinion:
I purchased this laptop on July 14, 2023. I am using it. Honestly, I would say that this laptop is good for normal users. However, it’s not suitable for me because I am a heavy user. So, I recommend it if you are a normal user who only performs basic tasks on your laptop. There is no doubt that this is perfect for you. Currently, in the market, this laptop’s price starts from Rs. 40,000 for the 4GB/258 GB SSD variant and Rs. 42,000 for the 8GB RAM/2058 GB SSD variant.
